Down bad with the sunday scaries? Me too – welcome! I’m so glad you’re here with me.
I have been thinking of starting this little subsection of my newsletter for a while and what better time to start than immediately after an incredibly busy weekend and a week were Trump was elected and the Treaty Principles Bill was introduced to Parliament. Yikes. A lot of people are feeling hopeless and scared and disappointed and angry, so let’s feel it together. And let’s hold on to love.
Post-election affirmations:
No matter who is in power, I am committed to working towards equality, liberation and representation.
I will hold on to hope for the generations that come after me.
I can be hugely impactful through small actions every day in my community.
I can feel two conflicting emotions at once. I can be angry and full of grief and still hopeful, motivated and powerful.
“All I know of hate is that it will never beat the love out of me.” - Andrea Gibson
I have the power to make someone’s day better through how I choose to act.
My anxiety and fear are part of my resistance.
My voice matters.
I believe in the power of my community to advocate for change.
“If we have nothing but each other we have so much” - Andrea Gibson
Some words for your perusal:
Be gentle with yourself this week. Feel your grief or anger or anxiety. Avoiding it will make it worse. Let it in. Say, oh I knew you were coming. You are welcome here. It will not ruin you. It will not break you. Notice where it sits in your body. Breathe deeply. It will ease when it is ready. It will not last forever and you are not feeling it alone. And when you can, roll up your sleeves. Research ways you can support and advocate for your community. We have work to do.
Yes to all of this❤️🔥
Love you words 😂
